The anticipation of the upcoming Australian International Pedal Prix at Sturt Reserve has the teams at St Joseph’s excited.
Once again St Joseph’s has entered two teams in the event. St Joseph’s school has participated in all the Pedal Prix events since it began.
The parents, riders and generous sponsors of the school have this year managed to save enough to purchase a brand new bike, with the school board also generously contributing meaning that two brand new bikes were able to be purchased.
The bikes originally purchased served the teams very well, but they were over 12 years old. With 20-25 children per year involved that means that over 300 riders benefited from these bikes.
The purchase of the new bikes will ensure that the school can continue to enter the event for many years to come.
At St Joseph’s the greatest thing about Pedal Prix is that any child can do it. There are no trials, riders don’t have to be the best at sport and they don’t have to complete a lap in a certain time.
Any year six and seven can be involved as long as they are prepared to commit to the team. It is a wonderful community building activity where parents and riders get to work and interact with people they might not necessarily know.
So on Saturday and Sunday keep your eye out for the brand new bikes with the St Joseph’s name proudly displayed. The school intends on breaking record lap times and series positions.
