Men’s Golf

It was AFL grand final day last Saturday and just the 68 players competed in the Bridge Building Supplies Stableford competition.

Daniel Hocking was triumphant with an extraordinary round of 45 points which gave no-one else a chance!

This enigmatic C grader occasionally produces a ripping round and with conditions ideal for golf he took full advantage with a great 20 point front nine before really cutting loose with 25 points on the back nine if you don’t mind.

Great golf in anyone's language.

SuperSid is back from holidays and after a couple of midweek rounds he flexed his muscles to space the others in the A grade with 41 points.

Any thoughts Sid had of reaching the B grade are now well and truly shot. Graeme Southern was next best with 35 and he continues to comfortably hold his single figure handicap status.

Mark Sappenberghs is close to reaching A grade ranks and he took a step closer with his 37 point round to win the B grade from Rob Walters who shot a solid 36.

Over in C grade Dean Wright was sick of losing his money to his boisterous playing mates so he reeled off a lazy 40 points to temporarily shut them up. One of the club's oldest golfers Des Behlau showed he was far from a spent force with a dazzling 38 points to finish runner up.

Voucher winners were led in by Neville Briggs with 38 points and he was followed by Tubby 36, Kevin Hosgood 35, Tom Haig 35, Squashy 35, Fred Carter 35, Kevin Shepley 34, Alois Kniebeiss 34 and Neil Paech 34. There is a bit of golfing experience amongst that group of players!

The Pro comp was easily won by Dan Hocking for his 25 points on the back nine. Time for a Stroke round this Saturday.

Women’s Golf

Armani Marsters was the Winner of the Day on a count-back from Lyn Pitcher on Tuesday 26 th September. It was an Amcal Stableford Round played over the entire day with both Armani and Lyn scoring 32 points.

Kathy Ruggiero was the first of the Open Placegetters followed closely on another count- back from Maureen Edwards both on 31 points.

Asia Marsters kept it in the family to be the next Open Placegetter with a score of 30 points.

She was followed by Kathy Pfeiffer on 28, Dianne Wickes on 27 and Sue Antel on 26 points.

Kathy Pfeiffer also won Nearest the Pin on the 4 th hole.

Saturday September 30 was another Amcal Pharmacy Stableford Competition won by Sarah Christie with a score of 35 points.

Ady Wright was the first of the Open Placegetters with 32 points on a count-back from Sue Antel also with 32 points on a count-back from Maureen Edwards who also scored 32 points.

Cathy Thomas was the final Open Placegetter with a score of 31 points.

Nearest the Pins were won by Sarah Christie on the fourth hole and Dianne Wickes on the 11th hole.

Dawn Stacey played extremely well scoring 3 for 4 on the 4 th hole to be the Winner of the Day on Tuesday October 3. She had a net 73 points in the Amcal Pharmacy Stroke Round.

There were 4 players close on her tail all with net 74 points so the Open Placegetters will need to wait for a final decision on the count-backs. Results next week!!

Night Owls Bowls

Preparation is well in place for the new season of the popular social lawn bowls Night Owls competition run by the Murray Bridge Bowling Club with Murray Computers again sponsoring the competition.

Players will have the choice of Wednesday or Thursday night to play. Previous years have seen anything up to 200 players participating.

Notices have been sent to all of last year’s competing teams reminding them to nominate for the coming season with replies steadily returning already including 5 new teams which indicates there will again be a lot of interest again this year.

Registration nights will be held on Wednesday and Thursday 18th and 19th Oct.

These nights will also include a free sausage sizzle tea from 6.30pm while teams and players are registering followed by an informal rollup to get back into the swing.

For new bowlers accredited coaches will be available to offer tuition and loan bowls are available to players each week.

Competition will commence the following week and will run until the Xmas Dinner on December 20 from when a short break will be held with the competition resuming January 18 and 19 and then run through until the final Barbecue and Presentation Nights on March 14 and 15 2018.

Games commence at 7pm each night with results out by 9.30pm, so not late nights.

Coaching will be available nightly from 6.30pm for those who would like to learn and to improve their skills. Flat sole shoes (sneakers, slippers, barefeet), are neccessary. Teams wishing to nominate will need 4 players for a game, although you can register more and share the nights around. Individuals may also be accommodated to fill up teams.

The club bar will be open and hot snacks will be available. The games are followed with supper and the popular raffles with multiple prizes.

Come along and enjoy a fun night’s entertainment.
