Hundreds of people packed the Murray Bridge Racecourse on Sunday for the last major race day of the year: the Christmas Cup.
The win in the feature race went to Savanero, trained by Orroroo-based Wally Bencic and ridden by Anna Jordsjo; the placers were the locally trained Impulse Diavolo, Flow Meter and It and a Bit, in that order.
But for much of the crowd, the centre of attention was the abundant food and drink in the marquees lined up trackside, and the Christmas parties carrying on within.
The next race day in Murray Bridge will be the New Year’s Day races on January 1, at which marquee packages and commitee room luncheons will again be available.
Racing will take place between 10am and 5.30pm that day.
