Semi-Professional football is one-step closer to players within the Murraylands.
The Mount Barker United Soccer club entered into the Football Federation of South Australia (FFSA) semi-professional State League, and are seeking extra players who wish to challenge themselves.
Whilst soccer has been well represented in the area, there has been a significant gap for a semi-professional option for players to pursue to enhance their career in the sport.
The Mount Barker United Soccer Club now allows players to play in semi-professional teams against some of the more well established clubs in South Australia.
State League football allows players to enhance their ability to pursue the sport professionally by challenging them to be the best they can whilst being coached by a skilled team to encourage them to excel to improve week to week.
Mount Barker United have three teams competing in the league, including an Under 18 team, the options are open for the younger generations, as well as the older players, to challenge themselves.
With training facilities and home games all contained within Mount Barker it removes the restriction of demanding travel times for players to attend the bi-weekly training sessions which can be a burden for people with busy lifestyles.
This will be made easier with the impending arrival of new facilities at Bald Hills Road in Mount Barker which is connected to the South Eastern Freeway via the new exit at Mount Barker.
A philosophy at the Mount Barker club aims to maintain a community feel to the club from grass roots to semi-professional. In addition to the more established clubs in the system, Mount Barker aims to be as inclusive as possible by keeping their fees lower.
Club general manager Andrew Marshall said they didn’t want to do was to price-out any player simply because of financial reasons.
“Unlike other clubs we feel that we keep our costs down and with the fantastic support of sponsors we pass this onto the players,” he said.
