A “urgent” eleven million dollar upgrade to the Dukes Highway – to increase access to the Bend Motorsport Park – has been pledged by SA-BEST if they hold a balance of power following this month’s election.

SA-BEST candidate for Hammond Kelly Gladigau said the expansion of the highway near the park into a dual carriageway and an upgrade to its intersection with the Princes Highway near Tailem Bend will be a priority to the party.

“Eyes will be upon us and many interstate motorsport fans are expected to make the road trip to South Australia so we must get this right and provide easy, safe access to and from the facility," said Ms Gladigau.

Liberal MP Adrian Pederick said there were already overtaking lanes in the vicinity, and that SA Police would use upcoming events to refine their traffic control methods before the V8 race in August.

“The money could be spent more effectively on shoulder sealing work and overtaking lanes on the Mallee highways,” he said.

“And the money has got to come from somewhere.”
