Murray Bridge police have warned the community of a scam telephone call reported in the area.
Police were advised by two residents that they had received a call where an individual claimed to be verifying whether they were listed on the do not call register.
The caller allegedly quoted the call recipient’s personal details and requested credit card details.
It is strongly recommended by police to never provide personal information or credit card numbers over the phone, to a person you are unable to identify in an official capacity.
In the reports the caller was described to police as very “persuasive” and “believable” in requesting the details of the individuals.
Police reminded the community that scammers can be persuasive and anyone who suspects they are the recipient of an unsolicited call to independently verify its source.
