Motorists who commute daily across the old road bridge will need to seek an alternate route while the bridge undergoes “essential” maintenance works.
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure said the temporary closure will take place between 8.30am and 5:30pm on Tuesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 24.
The necessary works will maintain the longevity of the 138 year old bridge.
In order for the majority of the work to be undertaken, jacking of the bridge will be required, including maintenance of the bridge bearings as part of an annual maintenance program.
Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route via the Swanport Bridge on the South Eastern Freeway.
Temporary closures will also take place on the footpath either side of the bridge for minor maintenance works. Access for pedestrians and cyclists won’t be impacted.
Signage will be in place to advise road users. Access to the bridge will be available to emergency services during the closures.
