Murray Bridge basketballer Riley Smelt will co-captain an SA Country side at the under-16 junior national championships next month.
The championships, to be held on the Sunshine Coast, will give Australia's best teenaged basketballers a chance to impress national team coaches with international competitions in mind.
His selection as co-captain came after a four-week trial process, and training with the team every week since February.
Yet if basketball does not work out, Smelt has another option: football.
He was recently selected in Sturt's under-15 country team, and has also been working with the Adelaide Crows' Next Generation Academy.
