A new technology is being used to roll out mobile phone coverage in two towns on the Karoonda Highway.
Telstra has installed satellite small cells at Borrika and Wanbi, on existing masts at telephone exchanges.
The units offer mobile coverage, including 4G mobile internet, to properties within a closer range than a standard mobile base station, at a lower cost.
The two units are the first to be deployed in South Australia.
Telstra plans to install up to 250 of the units across regional Australia.
The Karoonda East Murray council was already calling for improved coverage when Murray Zircon's now-defunct mine at Mindarie opened in 2012.
