Darts players perform well at nationals

The Murray Bridge Darts Club had four representatives play in the Australian Darts Championships at Bondi recently.

Kevin Young, Barb Smyth and Mark Smyth were part of the SA State Darts Team and achieved great results in the week-long competition.

Team manager Alex Cunningham, also from MBDC, not only managed the team but filled in when the team was left one short due to illness.

Barb Smyth was part of the first state ladies team to claim a medal at the championships in 37 years, after the side went undefeated to claim the silver medal in the Australian teams event, being runner-up to WA.

The ladies also placed third in the Peter McMenamin Cup four-a-side competition.

Smyth was also runner-up in the Australian ladies doubles event, partnering Barossa player Melina van den Kaboom.

Smyth continued her good run of results with a third placing in the Pacific Masters singles event, and topped off her amazing week with a seventh in the top eight averages in the competition.

Mark Smyth, the playing captain of the SA Men’s team, lead from the front, with Kevin Young playing in as well, to take the side to a third place in the teams event.

Smyth and Young then backed up with an undefeated run to the final of the Peter Mac Cup, eventually losing to WA and claiming the silver medal with team-mates Aaron Morrison and Zaine Skelton both from Adelaide.

Mark and Barb Smyth also competed in the Presidents XI versus Indigenous Allstars match which the Presidents XI won 10-1 with both winning their matches.
