Tailem turns it on for 10th music hall

If any one person stole the show it would have to be mime artist John Schwerdt, this time performing to the old hit tune Ahab the Arab, complete with Clive the camel and a delightful young lady.

Schwerdt had the audience in uproarious mirth, with excellent support from the chorus, in the three versions of Louie the Fly – the Mortein commercial.

Even those who don’t get a lot out of ballet could not have failed to appreciate the magnificent dancing of teenagers Angie Gould and Dale Hutson.

The whole show was well supported by the musicians, with Chris Foster, piano, revealing his considerable talent.

After 10 years, it really is a credit to all concerned that such a show has continued so long.

Emergency meeting

The Meningie District Hospital board will hold an emergency meeting tonight to discuss “substantial cuts” to the hospital’s 1991-92 budget.

Board chairman Mr Jeffrey Klitscher wouldn’t say how serious the cuts were, but admitted some Meningie hospital services may be in jeopardy.

Night fit for a queen

Murray Bridge woman Mrs Kay Newman had the night of her life last Thursday after she was whisked away in a limousine for a night at the Adelaide Hilton.

Mrs Newman was the lucky winner of a competition run by the Murray Bridge and Districts Community Club to commemorate the club’s Keno machines passing half a million in turnover.

“We were waited on hand and foot,” Mrs Newman said.

Lions remember Mervyn Schulz

Murray Bridge Lions Club members and guests stood as charter member Mr Fred Faehrmann delivered a eulogy in honour of Mr Schulz, who died on July 20 aged 68.

From 1968 until his death, Mr Schulz worked tirelessly on the Lions mints program, the St John Ambulance board and the charity bowls day project each year.

Hunt favourite for Mail Medal

Counting for the 1991 Mail Medal will begin at 7.30pm next Monday night in the Murray Bridge Redlegs Football Club.

My money is on a Tailem Bend quinella, with ruckman Michael Hunt to win from Roger Wilson.

Mannum pair David Buckley and Allan Jenner are my tips to make up the minor placings.
