The Bend Motorsport Park has won praise from drivers and fans alike – and now from the civil construction industry as well.
Lucas Total Contract Solutions was named the winner in the $10 million to $30 million category at the Civil Contractors Federation of SA's 2018 Earth Awards on the same weekend as the V8s roared around the track they helped build.
It was the company's work that transformed the flat, rocky plain at Tailem Bend into a highly technical racing circuit with rises and falls, 35 corners, fast-flowing sections and a 54-metre-long emergency underpass.
Through its subcontractors and suppliers, it is estimated that Lucas' contribution to the project injected almost $1.9 million into the regional economy and $4.6 million into the state economy.
Chief executive officer Ben Lucas said the award was a welcome reward for the efforts of all involved, though the greatest reward remained the satisfaction of seeing the track put to use.
"To be a key part of the construction of The Bend Motorsport Park has been so gratifying," he said.
"Our team has also really enjoyed watching people experiencing the venue in their tens of thousands at the OTR Super Sprint."
