Protesters reported after spending day on Strathalbyn abattoir roof

A group of protesters who spent the day on the roof of an abattoir at Strathalbyn have been reported by police.

Although police were called to the property on Ashbourne Road about 6am on Friday, September 21, the protest did not conclude until that afternoon.

Police received the reports of people trespassing on the property when they had climbed onto the roof.

They stayed atop the abattoir all day, but after negotiations between the group and management, a lamb was handed over to the protesters, and they climbed down.

Twenty-three people were reported for criminal trespass, although it is not clear if there were more people involved who were not reported.

They will have to face the Mount Barker Magistrates Court at a later date.
