They promised us that the 2018 Bachelor Australia finale would be ‘epic’ and last night’s final episode certainly lived up to that hype.

Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins’ decision to remain a bachelor by not choosing either of the final two bachelorettes will go down as one of the most shocking and unexpected moments in the series’ history.

At the beginning of the episode, Nick and the two final girls Brittany Hockley and Sophie Tieman are seen jetting off to New Caledonia – the stunning French paradise in the South Pacific.

Despite all the usual Bachelor nerves and ingredients for a fairy-tale ending, romance-obsessed viewers did not expect that amongst Sheraton Deva’s beachfront bungalows, magnificent West Coast sunsets, and picturesque beaches that they were about to witness not one, but two broken hearts.

So, while everyone is still talking about the outcome of that final rose ceremony, let’s take a moment (or more) to appreciate the real winner of last night’s episode – the beautiful setting of this year’s finale, New Caledonia.

The accommodation of choice was the luxurious and remote Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Spa & Golf Resort.

It certainly seemed like it had all the ingredients for a fairytale ending – views over the UNESCO World Heritage-listed barrier reef on one side, and the rolling hills of the protected Deva Estate on the other; beachfront bungalows; magnificent sunsets; picturesque beaches; epic dates and a unique blend of French and Melanesian culture.

The resort is set upon 13 kilometres of white sand beach and has 176 comfortable guestrooms, an outdoor swimming pool with a jacuzzi, a Deep Nature Spa in between lagoon and forest with a duo treatment room, day beds to relax on the beachfront, kids club and two delicious restaurants on property.

Nick stayed in a luxurious Superior Beachfront Bungalow, featuring unique architecture influenced by local Melanesian culture.

Natural light, fresh white walls and wood floors highlighted the vibrant locally inspired accents and offered a contemporary and comfortable place for the Honey Badger to retreat.

His standalone bungalow had a private terrace for him to relax and take in the uninterrupted views of white sand and sparkling waters while he searched his heart for the answer.

Also offering access to horse riding, hiking, snorkelling and kayaking in the surrounding area, the Sheraton is the perfect place for couples looking for a romantic getaway.

There is so much to see and do around both above, on and under the waters of New Caledonia’s lagoon and Nick and Sophie wasted no time jumping in.

... and nor did Sophie's, though the setting couldn't have been more romantic.

After meeting on Poe Beach for a romantic picnic with some local goodies, the active pair jumped onto jet skis and made their way to the beautiful Green Island before heading to Creek Salé.

Taking a helicopter over Shark Gate, Nick and Brittany took in the spectacular views of white sand beaches and translucent waters, earthly woodlands, farms and mountains.

Later they settled in for a picnic and time together in a treehouse at Nemeara Farm.

The sprawling property is ‘pure cowboy country’ – rust-coloured soil, green pastures and cattle scattered across the landscape.

Guests can experience the way French bushmen and women lived on the land – including sharing a traditional barbecue with proprietor Cindy Baronnet and sampling local venison and beef.

The seclusion of the resort was a perfect fit for the top-secret drama.

Nick and the bachelorettes flew direct to New Caledonia with Aircalin. New Caledonia is just over 2 hours from Brisbane, under 3 hours from Sydney and less than 4 hours flight from Melbourne.
