Santa Claus is coming to town – to Tailem Bend, that is.

It is almost time for the Tailem Bend Christmas parade, the annual festive celebration that gives families a preview of Santa’s visit on Christmas Day.

The community event will be held this Saturday, December 15, starting at 4.30pm with a Christmas market, food and show and shine.

The parade will start at 6pm.

Last year there were a range of characters and floats to keep everyone smiling, and there are sure to be some exciting new entries this year.

For groups, organisations and individuals who have planned to enter a float but not quite got around to organising it yet, it's still not too late.

There will be prizes for the best overall, community spirit, most humorous and most original floats.

This year the parade committee has also organised Fritz Sandwich the clown, El on Stilts, sumo wrestlers – available after the parade for some fun – and the usual Mario, Mickey, Elmo and Cookie Monster.

The show will once again be hosted by everyone’s favourite Jack Sparrow, Darren Gurney, and his pirate friend Dani Schubert.

After the parade has wound its way down Railway Terrace there will be a host of family fun for everyone.

In Willow Street there will be a great lineup of musical entertainment, including Lee Brocky and the Outback Overdrive, plus a range of talented local artists and carollers, face painters, raffles and a variety of food stalls.

For the children there will be lots of free entertainment, including Fritz Sandwich doing his magic, face painting, jumping castles, a velcro sticky wall, a bungie run, leaps and bounds plus, new this year, Darcey’s Farmland Animals.

Then, of course, there is Santa’s amazing wonderland, where the kids can have photos taken with Father Christmas.
