Former Murray Bridge and now WNBL basketball star Alex Wilson’s hard work and dedication has paid off with selection in the Australian women’s basketball squad for 2019.
Wilson has been invited to the Opals’ camp on the Gold Coast from April 12-18 with a second camp to be held in Phoenix, Arizona from July 20-31 in the lead up to the team announcement for the Asia Cup in August.
Wilson, 24, currently plays for the Sydney Uni Flames in the Women's National Basketball League.
Wilson’s selection follows impressive form in the WNBL before her season was cut short due to an knee injury which required surgery in November last year.
Wilson’s rise to the spotlight of national selectors follow an impressive junior career. She was a part of the Australian under 19 representative team, the Gems, in 2013 helping her country to the bronze medal and was named the Australian Under 20 Championship Most Valuable Player in the same year.
Wilson also represented Australia in the FIBA Under 17 World Championships in 2010.
Her WNBL career includes a few seasons at the Townsville Fire where in 2014, where she was named Rookie of the Year for the WNBL. She also represented the Adelaide Lightning in 2010-11.
