Life Through the Lens: Time to enjoy

Local talent working the crowd, crazy pseudo-firemen doing strange things with ladders and flaming juggling sticks, a hula-hoop sensation, a youth brass band, plus other talented people.

Oh – don’t forget Hans.

But would it be an event without the crowd, the friends you see, the unexpected catch-ups?

I wonder how many times between 5pm and 9pm the words “you know, I’ve been meaning to get in touch” would have been heard?

Have we become a society where busy-ness and our individual needs are more important than friendship?

I’m not pointing any fingers – I’m too busy to do that.

Fortunately, our community is still able to retain parts of the country town mindset.

You only had to watch the crowd last Saturday: people cheering together, smiles and waves of the hand indicating “you’re shorter than me, you go in front”.

It didn’t matter too much if an act had a hiccup; everyone had taken time out to support and enjoy.

Time out: do we ever stop and thank God that, as he dealt with people who followed him, because of his love, he said “one day a week you must take some time out, time to enjoy talking to me, learning about me, enjoying family and friends, to relax and charge your batteries"?

Even God’s son, Jesus, took time out to do this.

I’m confident we’d all be blessed, and our lives more joyful, if we made the effort to make time for God, family, friends and community.

Make the time to give it a try.
