Karoonda Football Club hopes for new change rooms

A $560,000 redevelopment of the Karoonda Districts Football Club's rooms is one step closer to becoming a reality.

The Karoonda East Murray council voted on Tuesday to fund almost 50 per cent of the project, which would include a community gym, unisex change rooms, an officials' change room and a bathroom.

Whether it goes ahead will now depend on the Office for Sport, Recreation and Racing, which has been asked to provide the other half of the project's cost.

The football club would stump up $10,000, and possibly repay more if an interest-free loan were negotiated.

The town's netball club would contribute $3000 and its development group $2000 if the application were approved.

The council had previously planned a recreation and wellbeing centre at the oval, but those plans changed when it received federal funding to build a child care centre behind the institute instead.

The council would not need to borrow any extra funds for the redevelopment.
