Ski for Life 2019 to begin at Murray Bridge on March 8
Dozens of waterskiers hope to do more than clear their own minds by going on a three-day trek up the River Murray – they hope to raise awareness and funds for a range of mental health initiatives.
Locals are invited to come along as participants in Ski for Life gather at Murray Bridge's Sturt Reserve at 7.30am next Friday, March 8, and depart at 8.45.
By the time they reach Renmark on Sunday afternoon they will have skied more than 450 kilometres.
The funds they raise will go to groups which promote mental health and wellbeing issues and suicide prevention.
Among the participants will be Georgina Sutton and the Sunnysiders, whose members come from around Australia to spend their summers upstream of Murray Bridge, and who have already raised $3600.
"I'm sure we all know someone, or have experienced ourselves, mental health moments," she said.
"The good news is it is highly treatable and life can go on."
