A section of levee along Murray Bridge's riverfront will be closed to walkers next week while repairs are carried out.

Erosion has affected the levee between the dormant Thomas Foods International meat works and the Hume Reserve footbridge.

The Department for Environment and Water will use heavy earthmoving machinery to repair it between Monday and Friday, supported by Murray Bridge council workers.

Acting infrastructure operations manager Tom Campbell thanked members of the public for their patience.
