Zoos SA and the Civil Contractors Federation will employ 25 trainees to help build the Wild Africa precinct at Monarto Zoo.
The Civil Train trainees will be chosen from a pool of 36 participants in a "pre-vocational training" program, 20 of whom will be Aboriginal.
Those who go on to complete the traineeship will each receive a Certificate II in Civil Construction, white card, and tickets for using scissor lifts and working in confined spaces.
The program was announced by state Innovation and Skills Minister David Pisoni during a visit to the zoo on May 8.
He said the state government was determined to work with industry to support growth in apprenticeships and traineeships that would lead to skilled careers, and would provide more than $500,000 worth of funding to the program.
"This pre-vocational training program provides an amazing opportunity to gain a range of practical, industry-relevant and problem-solving skills in a very exciting and unusual setting," he said.
