The Rockleigh CFS Support Group has been able to purchase new water tanks to double their water storage after they were successful in obtaining a regional safety grant from the RAA.

As one of 12 lucky recipients, the Rockleigh CFS Support Group, who applied in November 2018 for the 2018-19 round of the RAA's regional safety grants, has been able to put its grant of $7550 towards doubling the brigade's 22,000-litre water storage.

The regional safety grants are given to not-for-profit organisations, community groups, schools and registered charities with a project or activity that will improve safety in their local area.

RAA Insurance spokesman Shaun Ryan said the grants had supported almost 100 regional community groups since 2013.

"RAA has been able to support many deserving projects over the years that have involved bushfire safety, but we have also funded grassroots projects for road safety, security, medical equipment and children's education,'' he said.

The grants also recognised a number of other CFS groups around South Australia.

Grant applications for 2019-20 will open on November 1.
