Murray Bridge truck driver involved in fatal crash in Victoria, passenger arrested for drug offences

A woman from Murray Bridge has been arrested after a fatal crash in Victoria.

The 22-year-old woman was a passenger in a B-double truck which lost its trailers on the Western Highway at Pimpinio, Victoria around 2am on Thursday.

A bus then ran into the trailers, which were blocking the highway, killing its driver, 60-year-old Melbourne man Emil Pich.

Two of the bus' passengers were airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the remainder of the 45 on board were driven to hospital for a check-up.

Police spoke at length with the truck's driver, a 36-year-old man also from Murray Bridge who cooperated with investigators, but released him in the evening "pending further enquiries".

However, they arrested his passenger, the woman, and charged her with drug possession, use and trafficking.

She was expected to face a magistrates' court in Ararat on Friday.

The highway reopened on Friday morning, but officers from Victoria Police's major collision investigation unit are continuing their inquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the accident, or who may have captured dashcam footage of the vehicles involved, should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
