A Monarto man has been charged over two break-ins and car thefts on Adelaide's Lefevre Peninsula on Friday morning.

The 28-year-old will face charges of aggravated serious criminal trespassing, illegal interference and theft after being arrested by SA Police detectives at 12.30am on Saturday.

Just after 2am the previous night, police allege the man broke into a home on Kuranye Circuit, Largs North while five people were inside and, after searching the house, stole a Holden Captiva.

Despite cordoning off the area, calling in a search dog and spotting the stolen car - later found dumped on Dover Terrace - police were unable to capture the man.

At 4.20am, they were called to a house on nearby Lady Gowrie Drive after its sole occupant reported that someone was trying to break in.

When they arrived, officers found a Toyota station wagon had been stolen.

They found it on Paluma Street, a few hundred metres away, at 4.50.

Anyone with more information about the thefts should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
