The Mid Murray Council has decided not to fly the Rainbow Flag in November after considering a request from Feast Festival organisers.

Mayor Dave Burgess stated that while council supported celebrating diversity it would only fly approved state, national local government and Aboriginal and Torres Islander flags which was part of the flag management policy.

He said the policy had a provision for councillors to consider flying other flags in exceptional conditions but it was only for a period of no more than five days.

Mr Burgess said council supported the efforts of the Feast Festival and would consider other ways to celebrate the event.

The Feast Festival began in 1997 and provides a safe and inclusive platform for the LGBTIQ community to express themselves through art and culture.
