If ever there was a chance to get excited about maths, that chance will be here next weekend when internationally acclaimed mathematics teacher Eddie Woo visits the region.
The Youtube sensation who has over 655,000 subscribers and nearly 38 million views across his collection of videos will be visiting schools across the Riverlands and Murraylands, helping to inspire over 3000 students with maths.
Alongside his Youtube channel, Eddie is also the 2018 Australian Local Hero of the Year, is recognised as one of the top ten teachers in the world and has also authored his own book 'Woo's Wonderful World of Maths.' The visit to the region is an initiative of Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland (RDAMR) and the Australia Day Council of South Australia.
RDAMR CEO Ms Jo Podoliak said Eddie's visit formed part of RDAMR's strategic priority to build education aspiration in the region.
"The Riverland and Murraylands economy relies on industries that come to life through maths including agriculture, tourism, food and wine," she said.
"Despite this, only a small percentage of our region's school students aspire to further study that can support their progression in these careers.
"By developing our future leaders we can build the capability of the Riverland and Murraylands to remain competitive nationally and globally," she said.
During his time in South Australia Eddie will visit Loxton High School, Renmark High School, Glossop High School, Waikerie High School, Mannum Community College and Murray Bridge High School.
Eddie will also be delivering two free presentations which are open to the general public:
- Monday 16th September - 6.30pm at Mannum Leisure Centre
- Tuesday 17th September - 7pm at Chaffey Theatre, Renmark
