A numberplate check has led Murray Bridge police to arrest three people for alleged possession of drugs and break-in tools.

A patrol on Adelaide Road at 2.30am last Thursday noticed a purple Ford Focus with plates which were registered to a different car.

When officers approached the car, SA Police said, the occupants began acting suspiciously and trying to conceal something.

A search allegedly turned up small amounts of methamphetamine and cannabis, an ice pipe, a sledgehammer and a screwdriver.

The car was also unregistered and uninsured.

The car's three occupants - a 22-year-old Tailem Bend man, 20-year-old Davoren Park man and 21-year-old Brahma Lodge woman - were charged with possessing implements intended to be used in break-ins.

The younger man, the car's driver, was also charged with driving while unregistered, uninsured and with unassigned numberplates; and both men were directed to Drug and Alcohol Services SA.
