Seventy-eight thousand meals worth more than $214,000 have been delivered to schoolchildren and families in Murray Bridge over the past year, non-profit organisation Foodbank reports.
In an annual report to the Murray Bridge council, Foodbank said it had distributed 39 tonnes of groceries and more than 10 tonnes of fruit and vegetables in 2018-19.
That saved schools and non-profit agencies $150,000, money they could then spend on other support services.
The council voted on Monday night to extend an extra three years of funding to Foodbank at $10,000 per year.
