Mathew Hattam, Serenity Nursery win 2019 International Day of People with a Disability awards in Murray Bridge

A Brinkley Reuse Centre employee and a local garden centre have been recognised in Murray Bridge on the International Day of People with a Disability.

Almost 100 people gathered at Sturt Reserve on Friday to enjoy a free lunch, petting zoo and activities, and to see two awards handed out.

Mathew Hattam received an individual recognition award for the warm, friendly demeanor and hard work ethic he demonstrated at the reuse centre.

His ability to work with others and determination not to let the physical and learning challenges he has endured stop him from achieving his goals made him a perfect role model.

Mr Hattam thanked the party who nominated him.

Serenity Nursery was recognised in the disability-friendly or accessible business, program or organisation category for having employed seven people with a disability, helping them gain confidence, reduce stress and develop their communication and social skills.

Owner Tim James thanked Community Bridging Services for finding the staff members.

"For us as a business, (employing people with a disability) has helped us build a valued and productive workforce," he said.
