Karoonda's swimming pool will come one step closer to reconstruction within weeks.
The state government anticipates issuing tenders for the $1.6 million project by the end of January, allowing construction companies to bid for the work.
Once a successful tenderer is chosen, the work will be able to go ahead.
Karoonda East Murray council chief executive officer Matthew Morgan revealed the update at a public meeting on Tuesday.
Karoonda's swimming pool has been empty and unuseable since late 2014.
The Department of Education had most recently hoped to start the rebuild by the end of last year.
