THE Murray Towns Cricket Association hosted the annual Meyer Shield competition and despite not recording a win, their were some solid individual efforts by the competition's stars.
The matches were planned to be host by the Kangaroo Island Cricket Association, but in light of the recent devastating bush-fires on KI, the association was unable to hold the competition.
Murray Towns, Great Southern, Torrens Valley, Hills, Kangaroo Island and Alexandra & Eastern Hills were the competing cricket associations and matches were held at Johnstone Park, the Murray Bridge Showgrounds and Homburg Oval.
Murray Towns took on Great Southern in their opening match at Johnstone Park.
Opener Jared Masten made 55 while veteran Dwayne Krollig made 46 at number four.
Captain Aaron Zrim (24 not out) made so late runs as the host side made 8/169 from their 50 overs.
In reply, Great Southern started well and were on 99 before their first loss of wicket.
Despite the solid start, it was a tight finish as Great Southern took until the last over to make the total, recording a winning score of 6/171 in 49.5 oves.
Sam Robinson and Aaron Zrim both took two wickets.
On Sunday, Murray Towns played the highly-fancied Hills Cricket Association at Homburg Oval.
Hills won the toss and meant business as the went about building a big score.
Hills opener Haydn Reid (117 runs) was impressive and led his side to a final total of3/251.
Alex Pfeiffer took two wickets while Jacob Rance recorded a run out.
Murray Towns was gallant in their chase of a bit total, but fell short.
Marston (21 runs), Rance (24) and James Dawson (29) all got starts at the top of the order and Ryan Morris (41) was impressive.
Dwayne Krollig (24 not out) and Aaron Zrim (49 not out off just 25 balls) were solid but the total was out of reach as Murray Towns got to6/201 from their 50 overs.
