Melbourne-based street artist Mike Makatron has been hired to paint one of three new murals in Murray Bridge's central business district, starting in the next fortnight. The first mural - featuring a woman in a floral dress lying on grass - will be painted on a side wall at 10-20 Seventh Street, facing the Bank SA car park. It is due to be completed in time for the Murray Bridge Fringe weekend, February 28 to March 1. A second mural will be completed by the end of April on the Seventh Street wall of accounting firm Murray Nankivell, and negotiations about a third site are continuing. Artists for each mural are being chosen by a council-backed public art committee from a shortlist put together by Adam Poole-Mottishaw, the artist behind the Jervois dairy factory mural. Building owners and tenants are also helping with the selection of final designs. The mural project's $30,000 cost will be met by the Murray Bridge council and local Rotary Clubs.
