Local World's Greatest Shave effort 'Team Oscar' has been announced as the highest fundraiser in the 'family and friends' category in this year's Australian event.
Team Oscar was a team of 55 people - mostly from the Murraylands - who shaved, coloured or cut their hair in support of Murray Bridge boy Oscar Noye, who is battling leukaemia.
What started with his father, Josh, aiming to raise $5000 by shaving his head ended up collecting $111,286 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
On Friday afternoon, July 31, the foundation announced Team Oscar had raised the most in the category - about three times as much as the second place-getter.
In social media posts, Josh shared a "massive" thank you from himself, his wife Amelia, and Oscar, to all those involved through shaves or via donations.
"This would not have been possible without the community that is Murray Bridge who have been an incredible support to us during this challenging time," he said.
"There is a goal that by 2035, no lives will be lost to blood cancer in Australia and I hope that our fundraiser helps makes this goal a reality."
