The Southern Mallee Scouts Group is looking for new members, and if it is something you have considered trying, there is a chance to learn more about Scouts at Lameroo this Saturday.

A Come and Try Scouts event will be held at the Lameroo main street from 10am to 12pm on November 14.

There will be a rock climbing wall, games and activities for youth.

Group leader Nyree Hayes encouraged anyone who wanted to get a taste of Scouts to drop in, have a look, and ask questions.

"I think it's a great thing for kid in the Southern Mallee who aren't sporty; if you're not sporty, there's not much to do," she said.

Nyree was involved with Scouts as a child herself and loved it, and along with other parents in the region, she started the Southern Mallee Scouts Group.

"They learn lots of things like independence, leadership, lifelong skills, how to share, being part of community, and using your voice," she said.

The Joeys, Cubs and Scouts all meet at the same time to reduce travel time for families who may not live close by.

Southern Mallee Scouts meet at Parilla Institute on Mondays during school terms from 6pm to 7.30pm.
