As the regular cruising program gets back underway after a long recess due to COVID-19, the PS Oscar W team have selected Grahame Evett as the vessel's new captain.
Mr Evett enters the position with a formidable boating background. He has worked on the east coast as a sail instructor on the Whitsunday Islands, as a tour boat skipper on the Great Barrier Reef and at Port Douglas, was a skipper on the busy Brisbane River Ferry. He owned a commercial boating business before heading to Mannum to skipper the Murray Princess for more than three years.
He joins a group of a select few who have skippered the 112-year-old PS Oscar W on cruises around the Goolwa Lakes, taking monthly trips to Sails at Clayton Bay and other River Murray ventures.
Cruise coordinator Paul Hannagan said the Friends of the PS Oscar W were always looking for more qualified volunteers to crew cruises.
"Having an extra captain means that the responsibility can be shared among our small group of local captains, especially as we are coming into our busy summer period," he said.
The PS Oscar W offers cruises from Goolwa Wharf on the first and third Sundays of each month. To book, call the Goolwa Visitor Information Centre or visit visitalexandrina.com/book-cruise
