FOUNDING member and event director of Murraylands Multisports Incorporated Morgan Coull took out the Sports Person of the Year award at the Rural City of Murray Bridge Australia Day Awards on Tuesday.

The accomplished athlete excels in trail running, mountain biking, adventure racing and recently represented Australia in the World's Toughest race in Fiji.

However, he does not do all of his best work while in competition.

Coull is the visionary responsible for the creation of local events including Murray Bridge Fun Run, the Federation Ultra Trail, the Rockleigh 105 Gravel Fest and the Murray Bridge Marathon.

Rural City of Murray Bridge chief executive officer Michael Sedgman said Coull was an outstanding sports person and community leader.

"He has taken on the role of creator and visionary behind multiple community events including the Murray Bridge Fun Run, the Federation Ultra Trail, the Rockleigh 105 Gravel Fest and the Murray Bridge Marathon," he said.

"Morgan provides the Murraylands community with accessible, inclusive and affordable events to encourage a wide range of participants.

"He is instrumental in the design and mapping of event courses, promotion and participant registration, right through to the conclusion of each event, coordinating every aspect of each events administration.

Accepting the award, Coull said he was surprised and humbled.

"Last year was one of my hardest years working through COVID, trying to put on events," he said.

He thanked his family, Murraylands Multisports committee members and paid tribute to the Murray Bridge council.

"You're only as good as the people you are around ... I have a great bunch of people around me and a fantastic community and the council have been a massive help in driving some of the projects I'm involved in so thank you all very much."

Coull took the stage twice on at the Australia Day awards ceremony with the Murraylands Multisports Incorporated's Murray Bridge Marathon a joint winner of the Community Event of the Year award, together with the River Murray Football League's 2020 finals series.
