ROLL UP AND ROLL OUT: Over 3,900 pharmacies have interest in joining the COVID vaccine rollout.

Thousands of community pharmacies and additional general practitioners across Australia will be invited to join the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

The additional workforce will be brought on board to support pharmacies and doctors already delivering COVID-19 vaccines.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin said 118 community pharmacies were currently vaccinating across the country and over 470 community pharmacies would be vaccinating by the end of July.

"From Monday, over 3,900 community pharmacies who have expressed interest in joining the COVID-19 vaccine rollout will be invited to participate in Australia's COVID-19 vaccine rollout," Mr Pasin said.

"This includes 1262 suitable community pharmacies from regional, rural and remote areas, like here in Barker."

Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt, said the addition of community pharmacy would play a vital role in the vaccine rollout.

"Community pharmacy is an essential part of the Australian health care system and pharmacists are highly accessible health care professionals who provide patients with access to vital medicines, health care services and support," Minister Hunt said.

Community pharmacies able to give the AstraZeneca vaccine are:

  • Terry White Chemmart, Southside, Swanport Road, Murray Bridge
  • Chemist Warehouse, Adelaide Road, Murray Bridge

People aged 16 and over who are living in regional South Australia are eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at participating SA Health vaccination clinics, General Practices, GP-led Respiratory Clinics, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services.

The best source of information about vaccination, and to book an appointment, is through the SA Health website at sahealth.sa.gov.au

Further information on the pharmacy roll-out will be made available through the Department of Health.
