Mullets to go: Karoonda duo Max Loller and Elliot Wegner will shave off their mullets at the end of September as they raise funds for mental health research.

KAROONDA duo Max Loller and Elliot Wegner are donning mullets for the month of September, not just as a fashion statement, but for a good cause.

The boys are participating in Mullets For Mental Health, a Black Dog Institute initiative which has participants shape in and grow a mullet for the month of September to raise much needed funds for mental health research.

The duo already sport mullet-style haircuts, but they are due to come off on September 30 as part of the fundraiser.

Max, a year 10 student at Karoonda Area School, said the pair had set a minimum goal of raising $1000 as a team but just a day after their fundraising page went live they had already raised $640.

Elliott took to social media to encourage people to support the cause.

"We will be shaving our mullets off in September to raise money and awareness for mental health," he said.

"Any donations are appreciated and could help one of your mates ... Let's make speaking up the new normal."
