It was a day that Murraylands community members came and showed their respects to Vietnam Veterans.

August 18 is Vietnam Veterans Day. The Mannum RSL was donated a wall hanging by Janette Stevenson in honour of those who had fought.

Veterans, Steve Stevenson and Denis Jericho who is also the president of the Mannum RSL were in attendance.

Mr Jericho said the day will always be remembered.

"Vietnam Veteran's Day commemorates the battle of Long Tan," Mr Jericho said.

"We are one of the RSL sub-branches that commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day, Korea Day and we will continue to do that as long as I'm residing as president."

Up to 35 people were in attendance to show their respects.

The Battle of Long Tan happened on August 18, 1966 and was held in a rubber plantation near Long Tân.

The action was fought between Viet Cong, People's Army of Vietnam units and elements of the 1st Australian Task Force.

We thank them for their brave service.
